Yellowtail Japanese Bistro in Alameda

This is my favorite go-to place in Alameda. Great sushi, quick prep. Friendly staff and easy to stash the car when you run in.

If I can give a zero I would. Literally the rudest most disgusting restaurant I've ever been to. Avoid this place like the plague. The staff is so mean and so rude it was unreal. Because I had the audacity to wonder where the food was after waiting for more than an hour. I was told to shut up and wait how dare I question anythingUpdate: Oh and don't try to leave them a bad review because you will be harassed!!

Ohmygosh the food was available delicious! The quality of the sashimi was fantastic. The bento was fresh and flavorful. The gentleman who served us ( possibly the owner?) Was so kind and friendly. We had a genuinely great experience. I would go here again and again and again. Definitely worth the money. Quality and ambiance

Good food, nice and quick service. Came in on my own on a Monday, a few locals, you could tell, came in and quite a few to go orders, more than expected. All in all, coming back when in town again. Cheers!

Great location, friendly staff, and yummy udon.

Poor customer service the hostess stood 5 feet away from me and was yelling what Did I want when I walked in the door. That’s not how you greet customers! You will never get my money.

We ate for the first time and we already couldn’t wait for the next weekend to come back here. Japanese chef + japanese staff you can’t go wrong. They have lots of selection even udon AND ramen, sushi, rolls, sashimi, bento (thyr call lucky box), grilled stuff like hamachi kama and so much more. This isnour new favorite japanese resto in Alameda. Good service, clean environment and reasonable price.

None of our dinner party have any relationship with this restaurant. We stumbled upon Yellow Tail Sushi while searching for. Japanese restaurant near our sons work. It was a little hard to find for a first time visitor, but what a great find!The Miso soup Was presented well and tasted as good as any Miso soup we’ve had before. The salad had a very nice presentation. The Sushi was fresh and very tasty The Tempura was not over fried and the oil used was clearly new as the Tempura was tasty, crunchy, and not to thick. Offering brown rice made for a great option also. Edamame was included in the box dinners. The hot tea was also very tasty. We all agreed that we definitely would recommend Yellow Tail Sushi to anyone looking for a very good Japanese meal.

I celebrated my graduation last night in this great place. I am glad to say that we passed a brilliant evening and the restaurant was unquestionably one of the reasons for that successful celebration. The stuff participated in a lovely way, the cooking was great and my buddies were very glad. We shall absolutely return for more celebrations. thanks very much.

They commented on my dad's beard, bc it is after Christmas and he has a bit of greying and it was the best thing to ever happen.

It was one of those nights where I just wanted to eat alone. I had a craving for sushi. I checked online, saw there was bar seating, perfect. I walked in, it was quiet in an elegant way, not dead silence. Sat down at the bar. I ordered miso soup, 7 piece sushi chef's choice and the chicken karage. The miso soup... It taste like miso soup, not too salty just right.The sushi tasted very fresh. Melted in my mouth while the wasabi burned my nose. Just how I like it.The chicken karage was alright.The staff was wonderful. I believe I met George, this guy went above and beyond. I'd definitely come back just because he was very kind and made good suggestions. For example, wasabi and beer good. Wasabi and water baaaad.... Thanks for the tip George. See you guys soon!

Nice flavors

Delicious sushi and really nice customer service. The restaurant is kind of hidden so we lucked out and just happen to discover it. Love the unagi tempura.

So good. We got there just before they closed for their lunch break but can't believe I haven't been here before. Their chicken karage & crab stuffed shrimp are delicious. I wish they had a roll similar to other places with crab & shrimp but I was pleased with the one I got with shrimp & salmon. Only knock was that they used smoked salmon & it kinda overpowered the roll. That said, this was really good & I can't wait to go back

Excellent service! I highly recommend this restaurant if you love sushi. Everything I tried was very fresh and delicious. No soy sauce needed.. just enjoy it with your friends.

Quiet restaurant that's tucked away from the busy street. Great food and service.

Ordered 15 piece chef's choice, ankimo, and a Gary's roll. The ankimo was decent, but Gary's Roll was bland, and the 15 piece sashimi was mediocre. The sashimi portions were quite big, but the taste wasn't there. For the 15 piece, we had 4 pieces each of sake, maguro, hamachi, and 3 pieces of a white fish. The food quality didn't justify the price.

Really delicious comfort food, warmed me right up after recovering from a cold. My roommate and I were really surprised at how flavorful and genuine the food was. Definitely coming back.

Celebrated my daughter's birthday there and was pleasantly surprised by the quality of food, service and cleanliness!! Owner realized that upon exiting and took time to send my little girl a few Japanese sodas drinks!! Definitely a must whenever I'm in town!!

YellowTail is my favorite local sushi place. The food is always fresh and delicious, and chef and/or owner usually come out to say hi and ask if we like the food. Very nice gesture! The place is very clean and staff very friendly. I really recommend this place! It also located in a alley that is very romantic with light garlands.

Really good Sushi place with fresh fish! Try there dark Asahi it is smoother beer on stout side!

Great sashimi!

It’s the perfect Sushi place for Alameda. The outside might trick you to think is super expensive but prices are pretty normal. Service was superb and food left me with a happy feeling in my mouth.

This was a great hidden treasure. Food was delicious. Staff was great. They gave us a kids plate and cup of water for our daughter without us asking. We will absolutely be returning

Amazing place in Alameda. Quite possibly my favorite lunch special in town. I recommend the saba shioyaki bento, which the manager of my restaurant now just automatically inputs as soon as I walk in lol.This place is cozy, very affordable, and consistently tasty. Check it out!

Great food

Very good prices. Lunch combos good. But miso soup too salty. I had seafood ramen which was good, with calamari, scallops, fish. We also had soft shell crab appetizer and lunch special with salty miso soup, salad, 5 pc sashimi.

I ordered on Eat 24 and am in love! This is now my new favorite sushi place. All my for was so fresh and the fish was superb quality. So many rolls to choose from!

I've never had a bad meal at yellowtail. They're one of the few sushi restaurants in Alameda that prepare Escolar consistently and deliciously. Most nigiri pieces are yummy and generous. I've had the curry cutlet meal, a good third of the rolls, nearly every nigiri and sashimi options and a good number of the appetizers. Even their sake selection is well-curated variety wise. I've been here for work functions or personal outings and have yet to be disappointed. Give this place a try and be sure to watch your head when entering as the ceiling is low up front !
